Good Night and God Bless - FRANCE is an introduction to religious hospitality, and to sourcing accommodation in convent, monastery and religious owned or managed guesthouses, hotels, and hostels.
Safe, clean, inexpensive, and well-located religious lodgings are open to men and women of all faiths and none, and to individuals, couples, families, and tourists. Pilgrims, hikers, cyclists or school groups embarking on educational or study tours to find tailor-made accommodation. Members of religious orders and travellers seeking a spiritual sojourn are also catered for. Parish, school, and workplace conference groups will find meeting and seminar rooms with up-to-date audio-visual equipment, suitable for lectures, training sessions, and other large gatherings. Convent and monastery guesthouses that are open to tourists are clearly noted. And the refined splendour of a medieval abbey provides a charismatic setting for weddings, family celebrations, social and corporate functions, and cultural events.
Religious guesthouses feature well appointed guest rooms, with the choice of a private or shared bathroom. However, while comfortable, the rooms are functional rather than luxurious. A light breakfast is usually served, and other meals may be available. Some religious guesthouses observe a (mostly generous), late night curfew. However, in most instances guests are free to come and go as they please. Taking part in religious activities is optional, except in convents and monasteries offering a 'spiritual vacation’, or a 'taste' of convent or monastic life.
While many of the listings are open to tourists, please keep in mind that religious guesthouses do not offer a resort or 5-star hotel experience, and in return for reasonably priced, safe and unique accommodation, guests are naturally expected to respect the Christian environment and the culture and way of life of the religious community in residence.
